Otis supplies nearly 300 elevators for Chahuadi neighborhood as part of the largest single-site installation in Otis China’s history.
Known as China’s Silicon Valley, Shenzhen is home to more than 17 million people and has an ongoing effort to revitalize the area. This transformation includes a renewal project in the Chahuadi neighborhood of Luohu, where Otis is providing approximately 280 elevators with digital solutions – including the Otis ONE® IoT platform with real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance capabilities.
The project includes more than 200 Otis Skyrise® elevators, offering the latest technology available for high-rise buildings. It was also the first project in China to use Otis SkyBuildTM technology – a high-speed, self-climbing construction elevator that grows with the building to give field teams access to the highest completed floor, even in harsh weather conditions. Once construction is complete, the SkyBuild car goes straight into service as an Otis Skyrise unit.
The Chahuadi project was the first SkyBuild project to employ a new method for lifting twin duplex elevators, using a pulling platform instead of a hydraulic pushing platform to increase lifting efficiency and further reduce construction costs.
When the project started, Chahuadi was a densely populated district of dwellings sprawling across steep slopes where landslides are not uncommon. Urban renewal efforts were a daunting prospect, involving more than 1,340 residential buildings and 1,130 shops, plus temporary relocation of more than 93,000 residents.

Overcoming challenges
Working in an area prone to landslides poses challenges to a building schedule. Even so, remaining on track from early-stage construction to final equipment installation was vital to ensure residents could return to their homes in a timely fashion.
The original plan called for elevators to be installed sector-by-sector but was later changed to require the simultaneous deployment of the elevators in all six sectors of the site.
Field operations had to continue at pace to meet the project timeline, but the team also needed to adhere to pandemic control measures and ensure onsite safety and efficiency.
Implementing diverse digital solutions
As part of the neighborhood renewal, Otis introduced technology solutions to provide greater efficiency, superior quality and help ensure safety during and after completion of the project.
Otis ONE – proactive maintenance
Elevators installed in Chahuadi are equipped with Otis ONE, an IoT platform that supports real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance to enhance elevator uptime and safety.
Otis Field PAD – installation pace
The Otis Field PAD field installation management system developed by Otis China enhances quality and efficiency by digitalizing the entire field installation and delivery workflow. Field installation teams and subcontractors use the single platform to track installation milestones; issue, review and approve work orders; and access expert support in real-time, as needed.
Otis app – smart mobile experience
Once the new elevators go into use, building owners and managers serving the Chahuadi community will use the Otis customer service CX app to manage day-to-day elevator operations and maintenance. The app also connects to the Otis digital ecosystem where customers can place orders for new parts and service, retrieve records and access reports, anytime from anywhere.
In addition to this work in the Chahuadi neighborhood, Otis China has also played a key role in building out Shenzhen’s iconic landmark Ping’An Financial Center, the Shenzhen Metro, and the Shenzhen Baoan International Airport.
