ELEVADORES MEGA IS CELEBRATING
Enzo Rodríguez began his professional career in his native country, Uruguay, almost a teenager. He arrived in Argentina in 1992, where he was able to fulfill his great goal: Manage his own company. Today he celebrates with his large “team” his first 25 years as a businessman on this side of Río de la Plata. Revista del Ascensor, who was close to him from the beginning, accompanies him and his son Nicolás in this celebration.
“These 25 years mean the consolidation of a dream. A dream that started since I arrived from Uruguay to Argentina in 1992. From that moment on my goals were always to fulfill that dream of having my own company”.
This is how Enzo answered our first question about the meaning of celebrating 25 years of activity in Argentina.
THE COMPANY: THE BEGINNINGS AND TODAY
Revista del Ascensor: – How many years have you been in the trade? Where and when did it all start?
Enzo Rodríguez: – I have been in the activity for exactly 41 years. I started at Otis Uruguay when I was 17 years old, and that was my beginning in the industry and in this union, where I remain to this day.
R del A.: – How is Elevadores Mega formed today? How many people work in the company? As for your customers, what is your strength today?
E.R .: – Currently, Elevadores Mega is composed of me and my son Nicolás at its management, and a staff of more than 35 people, including administrative employees, technicians, technical representatives, and duty operators, whom we consider to be the greatest and most important company’s asset, who work to provide an excellent service.
As for our clients, every year we have the pleasure of adding more and more to the Elevadores Mega family. We believe that our strength is to put a very important focus on Customer Service, and on the fast resolution of problems that buildings and facilities may face.
We focus a lot on the client because we believe that the way is to provide a quality service, and above all, a service that really adds value to our clients’ elevators, beyond our obligation.
R del A.: – Do you have well-trained technical personnel?
E.R .: – Yes, in the company we always choose to train our technicians internally, since it seems to us that the best way of learning in this job is always to learn from those who have been in the trade for a long time.
We have long-standing technicians, who were transmitting their knowledge to others, continuing the chain, assuring us and our clients the quality of service we provide.
R del A.: – Can you mention some outstanding facilities of the company in recent years?
E.R .: – I could do it, but for us, all our clients are equally important. From a one-stop home elevator to a 30-story tower. This premise allows us to treat all of them with the importance they deserve and provide a service that is excellent regardless of complexity or demand.
We firmly believe that the way to become a valuable service company to be chosen is to make no differences and always provide the best service regardless of the client size.
R del A.: – Does Elevadores Mega work only in Capital City and GBA?
E.R.: – We work mainly in CABA and GBA, where the largest number of facilities in the country are concentrated.
While there are plans to expand our service, we are currently focused on consolidating in these high-traffic vertical lift areas.
R del A.: – How and when did Nico join the company, becoming the next generation?
E.R.: – Nicolás joined the company 5 years ago, and today he is in charge of the management sector of the company as well as he is part of the technological modernization of it, a fundamental pillar in these times since clients and the country increasingly demand digitization and streamlining of business processes. It is necessary to adopt automatic systems, controls, and processes that allow our company to grow steadily without impairing the quality of service.
If there is an issue that is in the minds of the whole planet today, that is the pandemic caused by the Covid-19 virus, and we believe that among all means of people transportation, vertical has been one of the most affected by it. Then it was necessary to ask Enzo about this question:
R del A.: – How did pandemic change the way the company works?
E.R.: – Pandemic was a challenge since elevator maintenance is an essential service. Almost from the beginning, it implied many changes to implement care such as personnel in bubbles to avoid contagion; changes in schedules and ways of working; in addition to having the basic care of chinstraps, alcohol gel, alcohol spray, masks, etc.
R del A.: – Do you know if condominiums or elevator users changed their habits when using the elevator? Do you respect the distance avoiding traveling more than 1 or 2 in each trip in the case of standard elevators?
E.R.: – In many places, it was respected almost from the beginning, since the elevator is a very small place with limited ventilation. We have seen etiquettes that indicated that only two people were allowed to travel, although the lift capacity was greater. We have also seen a lot of hygiene and constant washing of the facilities.
R del A.: – How did the pandemic change the way the company used to work?
E.R.: – The pandemic was a challenge since elevator maintenance is an essential task. So from the very beginning, it implied many changes to implement care such as personnel grouped in bubbles to avoid contagion; changes in schedules and ways of working plus the use of face masks, alcohol gel, alcohol spray, masks, etc.
ENZO RODRIGUEZ’S OPINION ON VARIOUS TOPICS OF HIS METIER
R del A.: – If you were asked for the best and the worst of your trade what would you answer?
E.R.: – One of the best things is that it is a very dynamic job, with constant technological changes. It is an activity in permanent growth that allows a great level of adaptation and continuous progress.
On the other hand, I think that the worst, or perhaps what most differentiates this activity from others, is the responsibility of the maintenance company when carrying people and the possibility of accidents. At this point, I believe that it is an activity that must always maintain the highest safety standards to avoid them and this is something that cannot be ignored or downplayed. And as taking care of people’s lives is our responsibility, providing safety transportations is the first, respecting and enforcing all security provisions.
R del A.: – Enzo, are you satisfied with the quality of the national components, or do you use some imported elements?
E.R.:- National manufacturing has improved remarkably. In addition, it is very noticeable that they care or have in their highest priorities improving quality standards.
On the other hand, imported components are still being used a lot in the industry in general, since there are things that we still cannot replace with domestic production.
I think that for all which is national manufacturing there is still a long way to go and we are excited to be part of that change as well.
R del A.: – What would you say has changed in the way of working in these 25 years?
E.R.: – In these 25 years had been changes but very important have been the changes for the companies and their staff, according to the responsibility we have when transporting passengers.
In addition, the business has developed enormously, especially that today there are better parts of higher quality, more technology applied to the business, and the operation, in general, has been improved, giving more safety to both passengers and technicians who must carry out work of maintenance and repair.
R del A.:- What is your opinion regarding the Business Chambers of the sector?
E.R .: – Regarding the Chambers and their development, I think we have to admire those who work without getting paid for improving our union, and we have to support them even if we don’t share certain positions or opinions.
I firmly believe that all the companies should be part of the chambers that exist in Argentina since the union of the companies is what allows a greater force to achieve improvements in our union.
We particularly now belong to C.A.A. but, as I said before, I think the important thing is to belong to one of the chambers and actively seek changes and try to keep companies together in pursuit of improving our activity.
R del A.: – What opinion do you have on the management of the City Government in matters relating to Elevators?
E.R .: – We believe that both AGC (Government Control Agency) and its subdivision DGFYCO (General Directorate of Inspection and Control of Works) are working very seriously in regulating the activity and much progress has been made. They listen to the suggestions of the companies of the union and constantly try to implement improvements to facilitate the control of the activity, which is something essential, especially in activities that imply a risk for users if they are not carried out correctly.
“We want to take advantage of this note to thank all the suppliers who support us and trust us every day to make the reality of what Elevadores Mega is today and also thank all the staff, former employees, building administrators, and clients who are and had been our clients, whose role was always fundamental to be able to grow to this point and continue on the same path.
And finally, obviously to you and the staff of “Revista del Ascensor” to provide the means to be able to communicate and always keep us informed about the union in general.
